Recently, a Chinese man was killed in Guangzhou when his mobile phone exploded, severing a major artery in his neck and killed him on the spot. It was believed that the victim had just finished charging his mobile phone and put the phone into his chest pocket when the phone exploded.

To prevent such mishaps from repeating itself, here are some tips to protect yourself.

1.    Always use original batteries. Be sure that the batteries provided by the manufacturer are meant for your mobile phone model.

At times, the sales staff may offer to change your battery, claiming that another brand is better. Do not accept such requests. Always use the original batteries provided by the manufacturer.

2.    Never modify your phone.

It may be cool to add a little more design to your phone, but paying it with your life is certainly not worth it.

3.    Always use original battery chargers.

Though universal portable chargers are now readily available, it is nevertheless safer to use the original charger as provided in your mobile phone kit.

4.    Do not expose your mobile phone to high temperatures and avoid exposing it to direct sunlight.

5.    Avoid long phone conversations.

6.    Do not make or answer calls when the phone is charging.

7.    Try to keep your phone in a bag instead of putting it in your pocket.

8.    Do not use damaged batteries
